WHAT ARE MY VEIN TREATMENT OPTIONS?

Varicose veins commonly affect people in the United States, impacting about 15 percent of men and nearly 25 percent of women. These veins appear blue or purplish and bulge out of the leg. The term “varicose” comes from the Latin root word “varix,” which means “twisted.” Any vein in your body may develop varicose veins, but they appear most often in the legs and feet. Standing and walking increase pressure in the lower half of the body, which makes varicose veins occur more frequently in the legs and lower extremities.

Symptoms

Many people experience no discomfort with varicose veins, but some do. If you feel discomfort, you may notice the following symptoms:

  • Achiness or a heavy feeling in your legs, along with burning, throbbing, muscle cramping, and swelling in the lower legs.

  • Itching around one or more veins in your legs.

  • Skin ulcers near your ankle, which signal a severe form of vascular disease and demand immediate action.

What are spider veins?

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are tiny veins that always appear dilated. Weak vascular walls and inefficient circulation cause them. Although spider veins cause no health problems, many people find them unappealing. Sometimes, spider veins resemble a spider: a large dark spot with thin veins radiating outward. They may also appear in other patterns and variations across different parts of the body. They frequently occur in the legs and may appear in dark or lighter shades of blue, purple, or red.

What are my treatment options?

There are several options for the treatment of veins. Depending on the depth, size, and location of veins you would be treated by either laser (laser vein removal) or injections (sclerotherapy).

For Long Lasting and Better Results, We Highly recommend starting with Asclera Spider Vein Injections for the “feeder” veins and following that with Our New Fast Laser Leg Vein treatment for all those small capillaries that injections CANNOT get. This Combo has proven to be the Best method. We Treat Veins less than 3 MM Only, which are Clasified as Spider Veins. It takes an average of 1-3 sessions for Max Results. Laser Vein Removal

Laser leg vein treatment from a Long Pulsed 1064 Yag Laser offers you a non-invasive alternative for the clearing of spider veins, reticular veins and cherry angiomas – with no incision, minimal discomfort and no downtime.

Palomar’s patented laser technology treats leg veins with superior comfort while producing excellent results. The laser vein removal uses pulses of laser light at just the right wavelength to constrict the vessels responsible for veins, causing the vein to degenerate and visibly disappear.

The laser light passes through the epidermis, only affecting blood vessels, so there is no injury to outer skin. The result? Quick and easy vein removal.

What are the side effects of Laser Vein Removal?

Laser vein removal is a noninvasive procedure and as such has reduced side effects and little to no recovery time.

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy treats spider veins and small varicose veins. In this procedure, the doctor injects a sterile chemical sclerosant into the veins. The sclerosant irritates the vessel’s lining, causing it to inflame, harden, and eventually fade away. Healthy veins located deeper within the body carry the blood, which reduces both the outward appearance of problem veins and the pain they sometimes cause.

Before starting, the doctor sterilizes the treatment area and begins injecting the sclerosant—first into the larger veins, then into the smaller ones—while monitoring the chemical’s progress. The doctor usually gives one injection for every inch of vein treated. Because the injection needle is so small, patients usually feel little pain and do not need anesthesia. The doctor typically completes the process in 15 to 30 minutes. Patients may feel a minor stinging or burning sensation during and shortly after the injections, but it passes quickly. After finishing the treatment, the doctor applies a bandage and usually recommends wearing compression or support hose for at least a few days.

What are the side effects of Sclerotherapy?

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, it causes very few side effects. Patients may experience minor itching and burning immediately after the treatment, but these sensations usually fade quickly. In rare cases, patients may develop allergic reactions, infections at the injection site, or complications from poor injection technique. Patients can easily manage any discomfort with over-the-counter pain medications, and compression bandages or hose help relieve it.

Where is the procedure done?

Since vein removal is minimally-invasive and almost pain-free, it can be performed at a doctor’s office or other outpatient clinic. Anesthesia is not needed and complications are infrequent. Although schlerotherapy is very safe, it is considered to be so only when administered by a professional.
