What Is Restylane®?
The Restylane® family of dermal fillers offers clear gel formulations of hyaluronic acid, and specialists formulate them to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. They instantly and visibly improve your appearance. Researchers have studied and documented Restylane® products more extensively than any other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers in the world, and their studies confirm the safety and effectiveness of these products. The Restylane® family includes Restylane-L, Restylane® Silk, Restylane® Kysse, Restylane® Lyft, Restylane® Refyne, and Restylane® Defyne, and each product serves a specific purpose.
As time passes, your skin changes because the natural aging process, sun exposure, lifestyle habits, and environmental factors affect it. Your skin becomes thinner, and you lose collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid so your skin loses the plump, smooth look it once had.
How Does Restylane® Work?
Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in our skin and supports its fullness and elasticity. When specialists inject hyaluronic acid dermal fillers into the skin, they provide natural-looking results by adding lift and volume to the tissue. These fillers also smooth away the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds.

What To Avoid Before Restylane® Treatment
Before treatment, you can take a few precautions to achieve better results. Avoid using St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for 5 days before treatment because they may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. If you have a history of cold sores, discuss this with your provider. Your provider may prescribe an antiviral to prevent recurrences.
How Is Restylane® Applied?
After a complimentary consultation and a review of your medical history, your provider determines the appropriate Restylane® dermal filler. Once your provider selects the filler, they apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area for about 10 minutes.
Because lips are a highly sensitive treatment area, your provider can perform a dental block if you prefer. Next, your provider injects the dermal filler into the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle. Finally, they apply ice to soothe the area and minimize swelling.
Restylane® Recovery Process
Redness, bruising, tenderness and some swelling may occur around the injection site.
These are typically mild and normally last less than 7 – 14 days, depending on the area treated.
How Long Do Restylane® Results Last?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers may last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year depending on the Restylane® product used, the area treated and how quickly your body metabolizes the product.
