Levulan® Photodynamic Therapy for Sun Damage & Pre-Cancerous Lesions
Levulan® Photodynamic Therapy (Levulan PDT) is an advanced treatment for actinic keratoses (AKs), or rough-textured, dry, scaly patches on the skin that can lead to skin cancer. Levulan PDT, a 2-part treatment course, is unique because it uses light-activated drug therapy to destroy AKs. Levulan® Kerastick® Topical Solution is applied to the AK. The solution is then absorbed by the AK cells where it is converted to a chemical that makes the cells extremely sensitive to light. When the AK cells are exposed to Intense Pulsed Light, a reaction occurs which destroys the AK cells. This procedure, allows specific areas of the skin to be treated while causing little or no damage to the surrounding skin and requiring minimal downtime for the patient.
The most common use for PDT in the treatment of superficial non-melanoma skin cancer, in particular, actinic keratoses (AKs) (sun damage). PDT appears to be the most efficient for the treatment of widespread AKs because the ALA concentrates on the abnormal cells as well as in the oil glands and hair follicles. The light source then damages or destroys the tissues that have absorbed the ALA. In many cases, AKs can be treated by a single application of ALA-PDT.
Photo Rejuvenation Cost: Pricing varies on the size of the area and is given in a Complimentary Consultation, please call for estimates. Photo Dynamic Therapy using Levulan is an additional charge.

Diminish the signs of time and elements that have taken their toll on your skin with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light treatments)! This procedure greatly improves the texture and tone of the skin by removing/reducing pigmented lesions and spider veins treatment. This fast and safe procedure also diminishes fine lines and wrinkles. It can also lessen the appearance of sunspots and age spots that could be pre-cancerous cells. The theoretical basis for PhotoRejuvenation lies in these two theories: Selective Photothermolysis and Neo-Collagenesis phenomena.
How It Works
Wymore IPL Laser uses the Palomar Starlux system with specialized handpieces to filter light from the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is specified for different treatments such as sunspots or Sun Damage Treatment and blood vessel removal. When the pulses of light are emitted into the skin, the light is absorbed by the pigment in sun-spots and the blood in visible blood vessels and converted to heat. The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels allowing them to disappear in 1-3 treatments!! Tightening of the skin as well as smaller pores are extra benefits of this treatment!
Before and After
Multiple treatments are required (1-3 on average)
The treatment outcome is an improvement in the skin’s texture and tone. Also, Sun-spots, pigmented, and vascular lesions are reduced and a reduction of fine lines, as well as smaller pore size, is seen. The results should be expected to hold up for years depending on the client’s skincare practices.
